Debre Markos University Academic Honored as Outstanding PhD Graduate in China

Debre Markos University (DMU) proudly announces that Dr. Habtamu Kefale, an academic staff member from the Department of Plant Science, College of Agriculture and Natural Resource, has been recognized as an Outstanding Graduate Student by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) during his PhD studies in China.

Dr. Habtamu completed his BSc and MSc studies at DMU and is currently serving as a postdoctoral fellow at the Sanya Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (SRI-CATAS), where he focuses on Molecular Breeding.

Praised for his hardworking nature, scholarly curiosity, and strong communication skills, Dr. Habtamu represents a new generation of Ethiopian scientists driving global research in agriculture. His continued efforts are not only enhancing his academic career but also fostering international partnerships between DMU and leading Chinese research institutions.

Thanks to his active engagement, DMU has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese university, following a visit by DMU President Dr. Sayih. This growing collaboration is expected to strengthen Ethiopia’s scientific capabilities in tropical agriculture and agro-processing.

DMU extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Habtamu, recognizing his achievement as a remarkable milestone for the university and Ethiopia’s academic community at large.
