Ethiopia Advances Digital Immigration Reforms to Improve Service Delivery, PM Says

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has highlighted major reform initiatives undertaken by the Immigration and Citizenship Service in recent years, aimed at addressing long-standing service gaps and improving efficiency.

In a message shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Prime Minister stated that the institution is now delivering services supported by modern technology and fully digitized systems. These reforms cover a wide range of services, including passport issuance, visa processing, Ethiopian origin ID services, entry and travel documents, services for foreign nationals, as well as air and land border control operations.

According to the Prime Minister, the comprehensive digitization drive is part of a broader effort to modernize Ethiopia’s immigration and citizenship services, ensuring faster, more transparent, and citizen-centered service delivery.

“The institution is working to further modernize its service delivery system so that citizens are satisfied and clients are well served,” the Prime Minister noted, emphasizing the government’s commitment to public sector reform through technology and institutional capacity-building.

The reforms are expected to enhance service accessibility, reduce delays, and strengthen border management, aligning Ethiopia’s immigration system with international standards.
