
Hosa’ena, Central Ethiopia — Ethiopia on Sunday celebrated the 20th Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Day with vibrant cultural displays, public gatherings, and musical performances in Hosa’ena town of the Central Ethiopia Region. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed attended the celebration, joining thousands of citizens who showcased the country’s cultural wealth and unity.
This year’s commemoration highlighted Ethiopia’s federal diversity and the collective commitment to strengthen national cohesion. Community delegations from across the country participated in the event, reflecting the day’s theme of unity through cultural and linguistic plurality.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed also shared a message on his official social media page, emphasizing the enduring spirit of Ethiopian unity. He wrote:
“ኢትዮጵያ በሕብር ቀለም የተሳለች፣ ሕብር ቋንቋ የሚነገርባት፤ በሕብር ደም የተገነባች እንዲሁም በሕብር ጥበብ የምትሻገር ሀገር ናት። ኢትዮጵያና ኢትዮጵያዊነት የነበሩ፣ የሚኖሩና ጸንተው የሚቀጥሉ ናቸው። እኛ ኢትዮጵያዊያን ሕብረ ብሔራዊነትን በማጠናከር በገዥ ትርክት ተሸምነን ተቋማዊ ለውጥን እያጠናከርንና ብሔራዊ ጥቅማችንን እያሳካን ሁለንተናዊ ብልጽግናን ማረጋገጥ አለብን።”
The Prime Minister’s message underscored Ethiopia as a country “built with shared blood, shared wisdom, and shared identity,” calling on citizens to strengthen national solidarity and continue the institutional reforms underway.
The Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Day has been observed annually since 2006 to celebrate Ethiopia’s constitutional recognition of diverse identities and to promote peaceful coexistence among its peoples.
