ADDIS ABABA — Ethiopia’s Council of Ministers has approved the landmark Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy alongside several major regulatory reforms aimed at accelerating the country’s digital transformation and economic modernization. The decisions were passed during the Council’s latest regular session.
According to official information, the Council endorsed the Digital Ethiopia 2030 framework as a national roadmap designed to strengthen digital governance, expand access to digital services, modernize public institutions, and foster a competitive digital economy. The strategy is expected to guide Ethiopia’s technological growth over the coming decade, with a focus on service delivery, connectivity, cybersecurity, and digital inclusion.
In addition to the digital strategy, the Council of Ministers also approved several key regulatory reform initiatives, intended to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability across various sectors.
Furthermore, the Council has forwarded to the House of Peoples’ Representatives a set of important bills, including:
- IDA (International Development Association) loan agreements, supporting priority national development projects;
- Bilateral legal and cooperation agreements, requiring parliamentary ratification to come into effect.
The forwarded bills will now be reviewed, debated, and voted on by Ethiopia’s parliament in the upcoming sessions.
These decisions come as Ethiopia intensifies efforts to modernize its economy, strengthen its regulatory environment, and position itself as a regional digital hub.
