Moscow, Russia — Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, arrived in Moscow on October 20, 2025, for an official visit aimed at deepening bilateral ties between Ethiopia and the Russian Federation, according to a statement from the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the first day of his visit, Minister Gedion met with Maksim Reshetnikov Gennadievich, Russia’s Minister of Economic Development and co-chair of the Ethiopian–Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation and Trade.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding partnership between Addis Ababa and Moscow, focusing on trade, investment, and technological collaboration.
Minister Reshetnikov reiterated Russia’s full support for Ethiopia’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), underlining Moscow’s readiness to assist Ethiopia’s integration into the global economic system.
During his stay, Gedion also held talks with senior officials from Rosatom, Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation, to explore new avenues for cooperation in energy and nuclear technology.
The discussions follow the Ethiopia–Russia nuclear cooperation agreement signed on September 25, 2025, between Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev and Minister Gedion. The agreement includes an action plan outlining practical steps for collaboration between Rosatom and the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation toward establishing a nuclear power plant in Ethiopia.
The visit marks a continuation of the momentum generated during Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s visit to Moscow, which opened a new chapter in Ethiopia–Russia relations—anchored in mutual development, energy innovation, and economic partnership.
