High-Level Ethiopian Delegation Meets World Bank VP at 2025 Annual Meetings.

A high-level Ethiopian delegation, led by H.E. Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, engaged in productive discussions with Mr. Ndiame Diop, Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa at the World Bank, during the 2025 World Bankโ€“IMF Annual Meetings. The delegation included Dr. Eyob Tekalign, Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia; Mr. Teklewold Atnafu, Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister; and other senior government officials.

The two sides exchanged views on Ethiopiaโ€™s ongoing macroeconomic reforms, progress in ongoing development projects, and priority areas for future cooperation.

Minister Shide expressed appreciation for the World Bankโ€™s technical and financial support, highlighting its key role in advancing Ethiopiaโ€™s ambitious development agenda. He briefed the delegation on the progress of pro-poor reforms and stressed the importance of continued World Bank support to maintain reform momentum. Key areas identified for enhanced collaboration included agricultural productivity, energy, human capital development, regional integration, and infrastructure.

Mr. Diop commended the Ethiopian governmentโ€™s whole-of-government approach and high-level leadership, noting the successful achievement of critical macroeconomic targets within just one year of the reform programโ€™s launch.

The World Bank Vice President reaffirmed the institutionโ€™s commitment to supporting Ethiopia through flagship initiatives such as:

  • Mission Energy300 โ€“ expanding energy access across the country.
  • Mission Agri-connect โ€“ improving productivity and financial access for smallholder farmers while strengthening value chains.
  • Local Manufacturing Initiative โ€“ promoting local production and creating quality employment opportunities for Ethiopiaโ€™s growing workforce.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to continued cooperation, underscoring the importance of sustained support from development partners to ensure the success of Ethiopiaโ€™s reform agenda and long-term sustainable growth.
