Addis Ababa – The President of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), Ato Abe Sano, has called on members of the Ethiopian diaspora to play their part in preventing illicit money transfers that pose a potential threat to the country’s financial system.
Speaking on the matter, Ato Abe stressed that irregular financial flows undermine Ethiopia’s economy, weaken the stability of its banking sector, and deprive the nation of much-needed foreign exchange. He noted that the diaspora community, being key stakeholders in the nation’s development, bears responsibility in ensuring that remittances and financial contributions are sent through legal and secure channels.
“The commitment of the diaspora is critical in protecting Ethiopia’s financial stability. Choosing legal transfer channels strengthens our economy and shields the banking system from risks,” Ato Abe said.
The CBE president further underlined that Ethiopia’s financial institutions are expanding digital and international banking services to make legal transactions easier, faster, and more accessible for citizens abroad.
