Mogadishu (HornCurrent) – Somalia today faces one of the gravest political and governance crises in its fragile state-building journey. At the center of this storm stands President Hasan Sheikh Mohamud, whose leadership has become synonymous with recklessness, shortsightedness, and a blatant disregard for national interest.
Hasan Sheikh is actively undermining the federal foundation of Somalia by targeting two of the most vital Federal Member States – Jubaland and Puntland. Instead of fostering unity and cooperation, he has chosen confrontation, threatening to dismantle the very framework that has kept Somalia’s federal experiment alive.
Critics accuse the president of engaging in corruption and looting of public resources. Allegations are mounting that national properties, including government-owned land, are being sold off to private businessmen close to the Villa Somalia circle, raising deep concerns about the erosion of public trust and accountability.
Strategically, the president has been branded a leader without vision. His foreign policy lacks direction, his diplomacy alienates rather than unites, and his governance style has failed to bring meaningful reforms. Somalia under Hasan Sheikh risks deeper instability and disintegration if his administration continues unchecked.
The time has come for both Somali citizens and the international community to recognize the extent of his failed leadership. Hasan Sheikh must be held accountable for his political miscalculations, corruption, and reckless disregard for the federal system. Somalia cannot afford another cycle of betrayal from leaders who prioritize personal gain over national salvation.
