Public Rally in Jigjiga Celebrates Completion of Ethiopia’s Grand Renaissance Dam

Jigjiga, Somali Region – [HornCurrent] – A large public rally is underway in Jigjiga City to celebrate and show support for the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), a historic national project symbolizing unity and resilience.

Residents of the Somali Region, carrying banners and chanting slogans, expressed joy and pride in the dam’s completion. Community members emphasized that GERD is more than an infrastructure project — it stands as a testament to Ethiopia’s national unity and the collective determination of its people.

“This dam is the result of our national unity. It shows that when we stand together for one purpose, there is nothing we cannot achieve,” participants at the rally told HornCurrent.

The Grand Renaissance Dam, Africa’s largest hydropower project, has been a centerpiece of Ethiopia’s development agenda and a symbol of hope for millions who anticipate greater access to electricity and economic growth.
