GUBA, Ethiopia – HornCurrent.com
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), a project of national pride and unity, is set to be officially inaugurated tomorrow in Guba, where the massive structure was built.
On the eve of the inauguration, senior government officials, prominent public figures, and a large number of invited guests have already gathered at the project site.
Unlike many large-scale developments across Africa, GERD was completed without external financing. Ethiopians at home and abroad contributed directly — from civil servants and community leaders to pastoralists and diaspora citizens — pooling resources in collaboration with the government to bring the long-awaited dream to life.
With the final completion of the dam, Ethiopians both inside the country and across the diaspora are celebrating in diverse ways, expressing joy, pride, and renewed hope for the nation’s future.
The GERD, Africa’s largest hydroelectric power project, symbolizes Ethiopia’s determination to achieve self-reliance and energy sovereignty while standing as a beacon of unity for generations to come.
