Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed will release his fourth book tomorrow—“The Medemer State”—further elaborating his signature Medemer philosophy of unity and governance. With this release, Abiy Ahmed joins a rare group of leaders who have authored more than three books during their time in office.
Globally, several notable leaders have also been prolific writers while serving:
- Vladimir Putin, Russia’s long-serving leader, has authored multiple books, such as First Person: An Astonishingly Frank Self-Portrait by Russia’s President and Russia at the Turning Point, showcasing his political outlook and ideology .
- Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, produced several influential works including From Third World to First: The Singapore Story—a detailed account of Singapore’s transformation under his leadership .
- Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, wrote a host of seminal books such as Discovery of India, Glimpses of World History, and an acclaimed Autobiography, all authored during or around his tenure .
- Olusegun Obasanjo, former Nigerian President, penned more than 20 books—including memoirs, essays, and reflections on leadership—making him one of the most prolific heads of state literarily .
- Historically, David Lloyd George, British Prime Minister during and after WWI, authored an impressive number of volumes—including a six-volume War Memoirs—cementing his legacy as both a political and literary figure .
In this distinguished group, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s literary output underscores his intellectual approach to leadership and governance. “The Medemer State” will be distributed nationwide, with a formal launch planned in Addis Ababa.
