Dakar, Senegal – Senegal has introduced mandatory e-visa payments for travelers from the United States, United Kingdom, France, China, and other non-African countries, marking a significant shift in its immigration policy.
The new measure, part of broader immigration reforms, is designed to streamline entry procedures, boost state revenue, and strengthen border control. Under the policy, African travelers will remain exempt from the charges, reinforcing Senegal’s commitment to intra-African mobility.
Young President Bassirou Diomaye Faye framed the decision as a matter of fairness, stating, “If they can make Africa pay for bush entry, why can’t Africa make them pay for bush entry?”
The policy takes effect immediately, with the e-visa system accessible through Senegal’s official immigration portal.
