
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia has officially welcomed the appointment of Dr. Girma Amente as the African Union’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.
In a statement released on August 4, the ministry praised the decision by African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssef, calling it a testament to the AU’s recognition of Ethiopia’s vital role in representing Africa on the global stage.
The ministry also expressed full confidence in Dr. Girma’s ability to serve in his new role, highlighting his “extensive leadership experience.” Dr. Girma previously served as Ethiopia’s Minister of Agriculture from January 2023 until August 2025.
