Mustafe Omar Admits Leadership Failure, Recommends Ally as Successor.

Jigjiga – HornCurrent.com

In a stunning political development, Somali Regional President Mustafe Mohammed Omar has reportedly acknowledged the failure of his leadership over the past seven years and submitted a list of four recommended successors to the federal government.

Sources close to the president, speaking on condition of anonymity, told HornCurrent.com that Mustafe is privately admitting that his administration has fallen short of expectations and that a change in leadership is necessary.

The list of candidates reportedly submitted by Mustafe includes:

  1. Husein Kasim
  2. Mohamed Fatah
  3. Abdirahman Hure
  4. Dayib Ahmed Nur

According to insiders, however, President Mustafe is primarily pushing for Husein Kasim, a close ally and longtime associate, to succeed him. The other three names, sources claim, were added only for formality and to create an appearance of neutrality.

Observers believe this move is a calculated attempt by Mustafe to maintain influence behind the scenes and ensure political continuity for his inner circle. “He fears that if he does not propose a candidate, the federal government might select someone from among his critics or political opponents,” a source familiar with the situation said.

However, some political analysts have dismissed Mustafe’s maneuver as shortsighted and naive. “Politics is not a game of loyalty; it is a game of competence and strategic interests,” one analyst commented. “When leadership fails, parties often look to internal critics or reformists—those capable of correcting the system—not close associates of the failed leader.”

The Ethiopian federal government has not yet responded to the recommendation. The Prosperity Party is expected to deliberate on the matter in upcoming internal meetings.

As the political situation in the Somali Region continues to unfold, HornCurrent.com will closely monitor developments and provide timely updates on the next potential regional leader. Stay with us as we bring more in-depth reports and insights into this evolving political transition.
