Chinese Premier Li Qiang concluded a two-day official visit to Egypt on Thursday, reaffirming Beijing’s commitment to deepening strategic cooperation and enhancing mutual benefit between the two historic nations.

In a series of high-level meetings, Premier Li emphasized the enduring partnership between China and Egypt, describing the relationship as a strategic model grounded in shared civilizational heritage and expanding economic interests.

“China is willing to work closely with Egypt to optimize bilateral trade, explore new areas of cooperation, and stimulate new engines of economic growth,” Premier Li said following talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly.

Economic Ties Strengthen

China remains a top trade and investment partner for Egypt, with bilateral trade surpassing $17 billion in 2024. Chinese investments have grown significantly, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, where the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone now hosts 185 enterprises.

Former Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf described Chinese investment as a “win-win model,” citing technology transfer, job creation, and enhanced export capabilities as key benefits for Egypt.

“Chinese-Egyptian projects have become symbols of productive cooperation. The outcomes are not only domestic but export-driven—serving both sides,” Sharaf told Xinhua.

Strategic Vision for the Future

Both countries pledged to enhance cooperation in infrastructure, manufacturing, green energy, and digital economy, building on their growing diplomatic synergy and economic interdependence.

Premier Li’s visit is part of a broader Chinese diplomatic initiative to deepen relations with Arab and African nations, positioning China as a long-term strategic ally in the Global South.
