PM Abiy Ahmed: “Ethiopia Is More Than We Know – A Rising Symbol of Africa’s Renaissance”

Addis Ababa — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Sunday delivered a powerful message of national confidence and continental optimism during the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Ethiopian Air Force, describing Ethiopia as a country whose true potential is still not fully understood, even by its own people.

Speaking at the anniversary ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized Ethiopia’s deep historical roots, vast resources, and growing capabilities, while underlining its emerging role as a symbol of Africa’s renewal and resurgence.

“We do not yet know Ethiopia properly or sufficiently. Ethiopia is a country far greater than how we often perceive it. In its wealth, its history, and its capabilities—and beyond that—Ethiopia is a nation that is rising. It is a country that represents Africa’s renaissance and the symbol of Africa’s return to growth,”

PM Abiy Ahmed said, according to PMO Ethiopia.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came as Ethiopia marked nine decades since the establishment of its Air Force, one of the oldest and most experienced air forces on the African continent. He linked the Air Force’s legacy to Ethiopia’s broader national journey, highlighting resilience, sovereignty, and long-term strategic vision.

PM Abiy noted that Ethiopia’s progress should be viewed not only through current challenges, but also through its enduring strengths and future trajectory. He framed the country’s development as part of a wider African revival, positioning Ethiopia as a driving force in shaping a renewed continental identity based on self-reliance, growth, and confidence.

The anniversary event brought together senior government officials, military leaders, veterans, and international partners, showcasing the Ethiopian Air Force’s historical contributions and its modernization efforts amid evolving regional and global security dynamics.

As Ethiopia continues to navigate complex internal and external challenges, the Prime Minister’s message underscored a forward-looking narrative: a nation conscious of its past, confident in its capacity, and determined to play a leading role in Africa’s renaissance.
