The House of People’s Representatives Standing Committee on Human Resources Development, Labour, Training, and Technology is currently reviewing the operational performance of the Ministry of Labour and Skills.
Dr. Negeri Lencho, Chairperson of the Standing Committee, said the evaluation focuses on institutional leadership, coordination between officials and employees, and the Ministry’s planning and reporting systems. He noted that the assessment aims to ensure effective alignment between plans and implementation.
The Standing Committee emphasized that Ethiopians travelling abroad for employment must do so legally and with full protection. Dr. Negeri stated that the Ministry is responsible for ensuring that citizens receive monitoring, safety, and support in the countries where they work.
Regarding job-creation efforts, the Chairperson highlighted that the Ministry has adopted new strategies aimed at addressing the country’s high demand for employment opportunities. He said this strategic shift is central to meeting Ethiopia’s national job-creation goals.
Minister of Labour and Skills, Muferihat Kamil, expressed appreciation for the Standing Committee’s supervisory role, noting that such oversight significantly strengthens the Ministry’s performance and accountability.
The Ministry also reported that it has been engaging in joint platforms with regional governments, partner institutions, and key stakeholders to improve service delivery and coordination.
In the area of skills development, the Ministry confirmed that new trainees were recruited this fiscal year based on psychometric assessments designed to enhance placement and productivity.
