Development Partners Pledge to Strengthen Collaboration with Ethiopia on Human Capital and Skills Development

Addis Ababa, November 13, 2025 (FMC) — Development partners have expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation with Ethiopia in the areas of human capital and skills development.

A new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) strategy has been officially launched, aimed at expanding access to quality skills training that will empower young people to compete in the labor market with enhanced knowledge and abilities.

According to Muferihat Kamil, Minister of Labor and Skills, the new strategy will play a vital role in ensuring fairness, accessibility, and the quality of training. She emphasized that the initiative is designed to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and employability among youth, while fostering inclusive participation across public and private sectors.

“The strategy is structured to create a conducive environment where young people can access better employment opportunities through relevant and market-driven training,” the Minister stated.

Development partners attending the event reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s skill development journey.

Eva Juniet, Human Capital Development Program Officer at the European Union in Ethiopia, noted that human resource development remains one of the EU’s top priorities in its cooperation with Ethiopia. She underlined that skill enhancement plays a key role in job creation, enterprise development, and innovation.

Similarly, Anja Pols, Development Cooperation Advisor at the German Embassy in Ethiopia, highlighted Germany’s long-standing partnership with Ethiopia in renewable energy, agriculture, climate resilience, and technical and vocational training. She affirmed that Germany will continue to deepen this collaboration to advance Ethiopia’s development goals.

The new strategy calls for strengthened collaboration among government institutions, private sector stakeholders, and development partners to ensure youth benefit from the program effectively.

By reinforcing TVET institutions and promoting knowledge-based growth, Ethiopia aims to cultivate a skilled workforce that will drive the country’s sustainable development and competitiveness.
