PM Abiy Ahmed Visits Bahir Dar, Inspects Stadium and Tourism Development Projects

Bahir Dar, Ethiopia (HornCurrent) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced on his official X account that his visit to Bahir Dar city focused on assessing major ongoing development projects, including the Bahir Dar International Stadium, Fellege Ghion Resort, and the Ethio-Ferries branch office along Lake Tana.

According to the Prime Minister, the Bahir Dar International Stadium — with a planned capacity of 52,000 spectators — is undergoing major upgrades to align with Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards. The installation of seating and turf has been completed, while work on lighting and internal infrastructure is progressing rapidly.

“We observed the Bahir Dar International Stadium as well as various ongoing projects aimed at making the city more suitable for tourism development,” Abiy stated.

The Prime Minister also toured the Fellege Ghion Resort, a high-end tourism complex being built on the shores of Bahir Dar city, modeled after the Gorgora Eco Resort. Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen the tourism industry and generate significant employment opportunities for youth.

In addition, Abiy revealed that the Ethiopian Maritime Transport and Logistics Company is establishing an Ethio-Ferries branch office in Bahir Dar to enhance connectivity and tourism activities on Lake Tana.

“These developments will play a major role in ushering Bahir Dar into a new chapter of urban growth and modernization,” he added.

The visit highlights the federal government’s ongoing commitment to expanding infrastructure, promoting tourism, and improving urban development across Ethiopia’s regional capitals.
