New York – At the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (#UNGA80), IGAD Executive Secretary Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu joined global and regional partners in a high-level ministerial meeting on Sudan, organized by the EU, African Union, France, Germany, and the U.K.
Dr. Workneh emphasized the need for urgent, coordinated efforts to halt the conflict and safeguard Sudan’s future. He underlined that any sustainable peace must be Sudanese-led, inclusive, and anchored in a credible transition to civilian rule.
The meeting comes as the war in Sudan continues to devastate lives and destabilize the region, with international partners pressing for a unified approach to de-escalation.
