Tokyo, Japan – The men’s 3,000m steeplechase heats at the World Athletics Championships kicked off today at 6:05 a.m. local time, with Ethiopia fielding a strong trio of athletes: Lemecha Girma, Getnet Wale, and Samuel Firewu.
The qualification round is divided into three heats. World Championships triple silver medalist Lemecha Girma will compete in Heat Three, aiming to secure a spot in the final after his heartbreaking fall at the Paris Olympics, where he stumbled just 300m before the finish line.
Getnet Wale is set to race in Heat One, while rising star Samuel Firewu will contest Heat Two. Both athletes will be looking to advance to the next round and strengthen Ethiopia’s chances in this iconic distance event.
Later in the day, at 7:50 a.m., the women’s 1500m heats will also take place. Ethiopia will be represented by Saron Berhe and Freweini Hailu, both determined to progress and make their mark on the championship stage.
With a rich tradition in distance running, Ethiopia is once again pinning its hopes on its athletes to bring home medals and national pride.
