Jubbaland President Meets World Bank Official in Nairobi to Accelerate Infrastructure Projects

Nairobi, Kenya – August 29, 2025:

The President of Jubbaland State, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, is on a working visit to Nairobi, where he met today with Binyam Reja, the World Bank’s Head of Infrastructure Projects for Eastern and Southern Africa.

The President was accompanied by Abdidukri Arab Omar, Director General of the Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of Jubbaland.

Discussions centered on the acceleration of ongoing joint projects between the World Bank and the Jubbaland Ministry of Public Works. These include the construction of key arterial roads to improve economic connectivity and business development in the Lower Juba region—particularly the 300km Kismayo–Afmadow–Dhobley paved road project. The talks also addressed the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure, including the Baardheere Bridge and local airports such as Beletxawa District Airport, which was initially rebuilt through community efforts.

The World Bank reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Jubbaland’s development agenda and pledged to accelerate the implementation of critical infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with sustainable development goals.
