Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – HornCurrent.com has learned from confidential sources that a formal court case has been submitted to the Federal Court against Somali Regional State President Mustafe Omar and several other senior officials.
The charges reportedly relate to the December 24, 2024 incident in Dacawaley Kebele, Harshin Woreda, Fafan Zone, where 124 civilians were allegedly killed, more than 325 injured, and significant property losses incurred.
According to individuals familiar with the filing, the charges claim the tragedy was carried out under direct orders of the accused officials. Those submitting the case say they expect the Federal Court to open proceedings soon and prosecute what they described as “grave crimes against civilians.”
HornCurrent.com reached out to Somali regional authorities seeking confirmation and comment on the case. As of publication time, regional officials have not responded, and it remains unclear whether they are officially aware of the charges.
If admitted, this case would mark a high-profile federal-level prosecution against regional leadership, with potential implications for governance and accountability in Ethiopia’s Somali Region.
