By Prof. Mohamud Abdi Ahmed
Mr. President,
As a kin and a friend, perhaps not in this moment but many years from today, this letter may remind you of what a true old friend tells in a moment of truth. I urge you to read between the lines and act upon what is written here. This is not a letter of hostility but a mirror in which the truth is reflected for you to see beyond the surface. Leadership in the Somali Region is more than the art of managing factions, securing alliances, or holding the balance of power. It is a trust from Allah, a seat granted only by His will, and withdrawn when His decree determines. Time and seasons belong to the Almighty, and no calculation, however precise, can override the geometry of fate.
In the history of our region, many have believed that mastery of political arithmetic would secure them permanence. They stacked loyalties like numbers, moved people like variables, and drew triangles of influence. Yet the equation dissolved because the greatest
constant, Divine Will, was absent from their political compass. If you try with all your might to retain a position, yet it has not been decreed for you, no
force on earth will make it yours. Responding to elders’ grievances through coerced voices, hired pens, or the dispersal of millions of Birr may win moments of illusion but not the permanence of legitimacy. To the surprise of many, you now operate as if outside the ruling party, driven by fears unspoken, while the truth remains that natural law is already in motion. Instead of worrying about the thirst of a child somewhere in Nogob or the hunger in Jarar, you have become consumed by matters that lie entirely beyond your control. Leadership is not measured by the tightness of one’s grip on the seat but by the reach of one’s care for the most vulnerable. If your day in office is over, no mass mobilization will hold back the tide, and if your season is written to continue, no wave of opposition will unseat you. The wise understand that power, when hoarded through fear, decays faster than power relinquished with dignity.
You are entrusted with a responsibility whose stability is not anchored by the applause of followers, the caution of opponents, or the power of decrees. The axis of your leadership must align with the axis of divine justice and humility. The throne is never truly owned; it is
borrowed, and one day it will be returned, willingly or otherwise.
As you navigate this critical moment, remember that survival in power is not about bending the lines of political geometry but about submitting to the One who set the compass. Thesum of ambition without His blessing is nothing but dust. Let this truth guide your decisions, for the Somali Region’s future and your legacy will not be written by human cunning alone, but by the decree of the One who commands time and tide.
Respectfully,
Mohamud A. Ahmed – Cagawey
