Ethiopian Prime Minister Honored for Advancing Women’s Rights and Representation

Addis Ababa — In recognition of his significant contribution to protecting women’s rights, promoting gender equality, and ensuring women’s active participation in governance, Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed has been awarded a special certificate of appreciation by the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs.

The honor also acknowledges Dr. Abiy’s landmark decision to appoint women to 50% of cabinet positions for the first time in Ethiopia’s history, a move hailed as a major step toward inclusive leadership and empowerment.

The award was received on behalf of the Prime Minister by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinator of the Democratic System Building Center, as well as Vice President of the Prosperity Party, Mr. Adem Farah.

The Ministry of Women and Social Affairs stated that this recognition represents the appreciation of Ethiopian women nationwide for the government’s efforts to promote equality and expand opportunities for women in leadership.
