The Ethiopian Immigration and Citizenship Service has announced a new and improved system for issuing e-passports, aimed at streamlining operations and delivering faster services to citizens.
According to officials, the new system introduces a modernized workflow for passport issuance, allowing citizens to receive their passports more quickly and efficiently. Beneficiaries have confirmed that the service, facilitated through a newly established service center, has significantly improved in speed and reliability.
Deputy Director of the Immigration and Citizenship Service, Mr. Biqila Mezgebu, stated that the new center includes multiple service counters and trained professionals, ensuring higher quality service delivery.
The service center, which features over 80 service windows, is now capable of serving more than 3,000 people per day, a major leap forward since its establishment in 2018 (E.C.).
Officials have also confirmed that existing traditional passports will remain valid and in service until their expiration, meaning holders of the older version can continue using them without disruption.
The new e-passport service will soon be available through an online registration system, further enhancing accessibility and convenience for the public.
This digital upgrade is expected to allow citizens to apply and receive their passports faster and from locations closer to where they live, marking a significant improvement in government service delivery.
