Reliable sources close to the Somali Regional President’s office have revealed that President Mustafe Omar is preparing anti-federal and anti-Oromia Region protests in Jigjiga. According to information received by HornCurrent.com this morning, Mustafe has instructed that a coordinated protest campaign be launched against the Federal Government, the Oromia Region, and respected Somali elders based in Addis Ababa.
Sources indicate that the president personally prepared protest slogans accusing the Oromia Region and the Federal Government of interfering in the constitutional rights of the Somali Region—particularly in regard to the nomination of woreda (district) administrators and territorial disputes over Moyale and Dire Dawa. One slogan reportedly states: “Oromia and the Federal Government are interfering in our constitutional rights—we will not allow Oromo to dictate our affairs.”
Mustafe is also alleged to have labeled Somali elders in Addis Ababa as “agents of the Oromo nation,” accusing them of opposing the Somali Region’s interests and submitting complaints about his leadership to federal authorities. This campaign reportedly includes efforts to insult, discredit, and undermine the dignity of these elders and clan leaders by portraying them as traitors.
Furthermore, Mustafe is said to have organized members of the Regional Presidium Committee to defend his stance, in direct opposition to the ongoing Prosperity Party Central Committee meeting. This move reportedly violates internal party regulations, which prohibit the formation of factions aimed at promoting personal or regional interests over the collective policies of the party.
Observers warn that Mustafe Omar’s recent actions represent a serious threat to peace and stability in the Somali Region and its neighboring territories. Critics argue that he is attempting to shift public attention away from mounting criticisms of his leadership by portraying himself as a defender of Somali autonomy and territorial rights.
“If the Federal Government and the Prosperity Party continue to underestimate his activities, the consequences could be catastrophic,” one official familiar with the situation stated. “He is inciting division, creating chaos, and undermining the unity of the federal system.”
There are growing calls for the Federal Government and the Prosperity Party leadership to investigate the matter urgently and take immediate action to prevent further escalation.
