Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – In a powerful message posted on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abebe has announced the city’s full readiness to participate in Ethiopia’s ambitious environmental campaign to plant 700 million seedlings in a single day.
“Addis Ababa is ready!” the mayor declared, adding that the struggle and determination of the past six years will be renewed once again tomorrow.
Starting at 6 AM, residents from **all walks of life—regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, or social class—**are called upon to join the nationwide effort and plant millions of trees across all four corners of the city.
Mayor Adanech emphasized that the campaign will not only boost environmental sustainability but also symbolize unity, commitment, and resilience among Ethiopians.
“We will create a beautiful, green, healthy capital!” she added, ending her message with a blessing:
“May the Creator bless Ethiopia and its people.”
The tree-planting initiative is part of the Green Legacy program launched by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, aiming to combat deforestation, enhance biodiversity, and combat the climate crisis.
