The Somali Salvation Forum has issued a strong condemnation of the recent violence in the Gedo region’s Balad-Hawo district, directly accusing the Federal Government of fueling renewed clashes between federal forces and Jubbaland regional troops.
In a press release issued today, the Forum expressed grave concern over the deadly confrontations, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of victims, and denounced what it described as a “dangerous political maneuver” by federal leadership. The statement warned that the government’s actions are jeopardizing Somalia’s fragile stability and undermining efforts toward national reconciliation.
The Forum cited the June 25, 2025 National Conference held in Mogadishu — attended by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud — where leaders agreed to protect civilians, promote peace, and intensify the fight against terrorism. According to the Forum, the current military engagement in Gedo contradicts those resolutions and risks dragging the region back into renewed civil unrest.
“The Somali Salvation Forum regrets that the national army is being used for politically driven operations,” the statement read. “This undermines public trust and diverts vital resources from the fight against terrorism.”
The Forum concluded by urging the Federal Government to immediately cease its military activities in Gedo and stop deploying national forces for political agendas. It called for a renewed focus on national unity, peacebuilding, and combating extremist threats across Somalia.
