Denmark and Puntland Hold Constructive Talks on Security, Development, and Climate Cooperation

In a high-level meeting held in Garowe, the Danish delegation led by Head of Development Cooperation Gertrud Birk and Chief Adviser JP Dyrbak held constructive discussions with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni on a wide range of issues including security, politics, economic progress, and social development.

The Embassy of Denmark in Somalia announced the outcomes of the meeting via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, highlighting shared goals and growing cooperation between Denmark and the Puntland State of Somalia.

The Danish officials congratulated Puntland on its effective efforts in countering ISIS, praising the administration’s commitment to peace and stability in the region.

Denmark reaffirmed its alignment with Puntland on several strategic priorities, including climate action, green growth, state-building, and resilience-building efforts. The meeting emphasized the importance of long-term partnerships aimed at fostering sustainable development and security in Puntland and across the Horn of Africa.

This visit marks a continuation of Denmark’s support for localized governance and regional initiatives that promote democratic values, climate resilience, and inclusive economic growth.
