U.S. Congressman Scott Perry (PA-10) has officially introduced the “Republic of Somaliland Independence Act”, a groundbreaking bill that seeks to formally recognize Somaliland as an independent nation.
The legislation aims to shift U.S. foreign policy toward supporting a stable, democratic partner in the Horn of Africa — citing Somaliland’s three decades of self-governance, democratic elections, and role in regional stability.
“Foreign adversaries are on the march… it’s in our national interest to strengthen relationships with reliable partners who share our values,” Perry stated.
Strategically located along the Gulf of Aden, Somaliland plays a key role in maritime security, anti-piracy, and counter-extremism operations — unlike Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, which remains marred by instability.
