- Denial of Continued Human Rights Violations
“የሰብአዊ መብት ጥሰት ነበር፤ አሁን የለም።”
Mustafe boldly claims that human rights violations no longer exist. This is a blatant falsehood. Numerous local and international reports, including those from Amnesty International, local activists, and former detainees, confirm the continuation of arbitrary detention, torture, extrajudicial killings, and the operation of notorious secret prisons such as Havana. Disappearances of critics, suppression of protests, and media censorship remain rampant. His statements seek to erase the suffering of many in the region.
- Fabricated Notion of “Clean Governance”
“ንጹህ የሆነውን አስተዳደር እየመራሁ ነው…”
Mustafe refers to his administration as “clean” and corruption-free — a claim that contradicts overwhelming evidence. Government procurement is riddled with lack of transparency, favoritism, and massive corruption in housing, infrastructure, and agricultural projects. Elites within the ruling structure have amassed unexplained wealth, while service delivery and employment are dictated by clan favoritism and political loyalty. Far from being clean, this administration has introduced systematic elite capture and monopolization of public contracts.
- Political Opportunism and Moral Contradictions
“እንዳሰብኩት አልሄደልኝም? አልልም። በከፍተኛ ደረጃ ሞራል እረፍት ነው የሚሰማኝ።”
Here, Mustafe contradicts his earlier position as a critic of state repression, pretending that his entry into power absolved the system. His failure to acknowledge or confront abuses under his own watch, while claiming “moral relief,” is not only self-serving but also disingenuous. He positions himself as both a reformer and a loyalist — a contradiction that betrays a deeper lack of political integrity.
- Manipulated Economic Claims
“ዛሬ… ክልሉ ከገቢው 45 በመቶ በራሱ ይሸፍናል…”
These economic figures are unverifiable and inflated. Independent economists and budget analysts confirm that the Somali Region still relies heavily on federal subsidies, and the claimed fiscal autonomy is more rhetorical than real. Public spending is still centrally dictated, with little regional innovation. Despite large budgets, there is very minimal infrastructure, unemployment remains high, and poverty and inequality persist, particularly in rural zones.
- Dismissing Public Discontent and Misery
“የሶማሌ ክልል… ከፍተኛ ሁኔታ አለ የሚለው አይነቃል።”
This is perhaps the most cynical part. It denies the daily lived experience of the Somali people, who face poor roads, collapsing healthcare, insecurity, and political repression. From Hargele to Wardheer, voices have been silenced or arrested, protests crushed, and community grievances ignored. To claim “everything is fine” is not only misleading but a direct insult to the truth on the ground.
Conclusion: A Dangerous Narrative of Falsehoods
The entire interview by Mustafe Omer is a masterclass in authoritarian denial, public manipulation, and historical revisionism. It attempts to sanitize an administration plagued by injustice, corruption, and political exclusion. Far from offering a truthful assessment, his remarks reflect an effort to protect personal power and distract from mounting regional failure.
In a region where people are demanding truth, justice, and development, such interviews only add salt to open wounds. What is needed is accountability, not propaganda. What is demanded is genuine transformation, not self-congratulatory speeches based on falsified achievements and denial of suffering.
Truth does not disappear simply because a leader refuses to speak it.
