Today, women representatives from all sub-cities of Addis Ababa gathered under the theme “The Role of Women for Shared Prosperity” to engage in a wide-ranging dialogue on urban development and women’s participation.
The forum highlighted the growing role of women in Addis Ababa’s political, economic, and social spheres. City officials shared that numerous strategic programs have been implemented to ensure women’s inclusion and empowerment, from business and services to green development and maternal health.
Thousands of women have secured employment and income opportunities through initiatives such as local manufacturing, small and micro-enterprises, safety net programs, and investments in green urban infrastructure. Women formerly affected by poverty and social hardship are now receiving psychosocial support and vocational training at dedicated rehabilitation and skills centers.
In addition to economic contributions, women are increasingly participating in peacebuilding activities, forming organized peace brigades to promote sustainable peace in the city.
City authorities emphasized that this annual consultative platform gathers insights and demands from women to help shape upcoming development plans. The goal is to address economic burdens, overcome social challenges, and collectively build a peaceful and prosperous Addis Ababa.
